Cats, Engineers, and Static Electricity

Two nerdy but cute engineers decide to use their cats to get noticed by ladies share their scientific point of view. I ran across this video series (yes, there are more besides this one) a couple of months ago. At first, I was concerned that cats were being mistreated. They post a  disclaimer: “None of the cats, humans, or engineers were mistreated in the making of this film. They were however, slightly annoyed…” , but my suspicions forced me to watch several of their videos (“Engineer’s Guide to Cat Yodeling”, “Engineer’s Guide to Voting – Ginger Cat for President”). I considered this investigation to be my contribution to animal welfare for that day, and determined that the cats were truly annoyed, but unhurt and much loved. You can investigate the treatment of these cats as well, and learn how engineers think. My dad was an engineer, but he never shared his deep inner thoughts about cats. He did, however, use our cats as a way of telling me and my brother that it was time for dinner — he would walk into a room where my brother and I were reading or playing, and tell the cat who was also in the room “tell your brother and sister that it is time for dinner”. He may have been showing his engineer’s sense of humor; I always thought he didn’t want to talk to me.

As their YouTube description for this video, the authors wrote: “Two professional engineers illustrate the proper care and practical benefits of cats…”

Horse and cats?

I’ve seen lots of dogs in horse stables, and the horses often were very attached to those dogs. I remember seeing cats around the stables, but I don’t think I ever saw one of them snuggling with one of the horses — I thought cats would think horses were too big to be around. But… if you have a fence, then cats can be just as tall as a horse…
